Note to the viewers of this website, this is the copy of the response I sent to the editors of The Gateway.  I was
promised by them (Dusty) they would publish it as I submitted.

An open and signed letter to the editors of The Gateway:

I wish to began by first thanking the publishers and editors of The Gateway.  I have been assured that my comments
will not be edited and will in fact be printed in the same manner that I have submitted it to the editor.

I shall not endeavor to go over the comments I recently submitted to the Beacon and presently have posted on my
web site,  I do wish to address a few items about the tabloid, and I use the term loosely, called
the “Watch Dog” or as I prefer to call it the watch puppy.  I will gladly upgrade their status to that of dog when and if
these individuals identify themselves and stand by their convictions, as I do not hesitate to stand openly by mine.

As some may or may not know this flyer was mailed to various Union Reps serving the classified workers, all that is
except one.  From the information I have received from two separate investigations on this matter, one of which is I
understand being conducted by the School District Administration; this is not the first time this has happened.  I
understand in the past the flyers were sent to the schools principals and in turn Dr. Lange, School Superintendent,
instructed them to immediately destroy the flyers.  I guess the individuals thought they could circumvent
Superintendent Lange’s policies by sending them directly to certain employees in the district.

My immediate concern when I was provided with two crisp back-to-back copies of the flyer was for the safety of the
individuals named in a flyer.  Not only was I concerned for the safety of the employees, school board members but
the safety of the children that these employees serve.  I had recently been involved in a community meeting with
Sheriff Doug Darr and a number of the officers that served under him.  This meeting added to my sensitivity to
safety issues in respect to the students of this school district.  Community members present in this meeting also
expressed concern for the safety of the children on and off school property.

I had just also sat in on a school board meeting dealing with safety issues in the district.  Apparently the writers of
this flyer gave no regard on the impact it would have on safety issues regarding the children of the district.  It
appears the only concern of these individuals is a vendetta against myself and the individuals they assume are my
associates.  Never the less one cannot help but to be concerned for the individuals that have been targeted by
these vigilantes (I borrowed the term from Ms. McIntyre) as I think it appropriate to describe these unnamed
disseminators of hate and fear.

My hope is that no one associated with the School District, either as an employee or board member is behind this
flyer.  A review of School Board Policies clearly state in Board Policies Section GDOA, you can review it, but I direct
you to one item that reads, “Failure to respect the confidential nature of district records and information about
students or employees”.  I take it that this includes publicly identifying individuals employed by the school district.  I
would also like to direct you to Board Policy BC-R, which incidentally was review and acknowledge by all board
members at the last board meeting.  One item of note states, “We will treat each other and the employees, students
and the community members with dignity and respect”.

My second point of contention to the flyer that as I have noted already several times lack the name of these
vigilantes who boast of their “strong beliefs” in what they write is as follows.  The possible use by these individuals of
school district facilities, equipment and material that are bought and paid for with taxpayer funds.  If by some remote
chance this did not take place I need only to mention the men/women hours lost as this misinformation was read and
discussed on time that should be used for the children of our schools.

My final point of contention in respects to the flyer is simply this.  I only wished the individuals behind the flyer would
have afforded me the courtesy to identify themselves.  These individuals however did not hesitate to name
individuals they mistook as my associates but like the cowards they are they hide under a cloak of anonymity.

Allow me to bring to light one of those individuals named in the flyer.  First let me note as I mentioned earlier that the
flyer was supposedly mailed to every Union Rep in the District except one, my wife.  Somehow the puppies that
identified her as they indicated, after a great deal of investigation, was this mysterious woman that accompanies me
to every school board meeting.  Because of her association with the School District I make every effort possible to
keep her out the loop, and I imagine she is surprised with my comments when she reads my articles.

We did work hand in hand on one School District Issue.  I was reflecting on this when I recently read a letter
addressed to the both of us by Rick Boos, a past Chief Operating Officer for the district, thanking the both of us for
our efforts in the last bond election. My wife worked extremely hard on this during a time she was recovering from
cancer.  My wife in my estimation is probably one of the school districts finest community ambassadors.  I have lost
count of the numerous parents and children who seek her out in the shopping market, community meetings and
approach with the affectionate title of Miss Connie.

I am trying very hard to recall if I have ever expressed my position in my articles or to anyone on such topics as
charter schools, school vouchers, or for that matter home schooling.  Yet somehow I have been tied the supporters
of those movement, not that I have anything against them or their thinking.  So how you may ask did this come
about?  A little background to began with.  My house is located in a fairly secluded area of Commerce City, truth be
known if we have a half dozen vehicles pass by daily I conceder it to be a high traffic day and that would include the
mail man.  In the twenty plus years I have resided at this location we have yet to pass out more then a handful of
treats on Halloween as the street is very secluded. Am I getting my point across?

As a citizen I believe it my right and privilege to post whatever sign in support of whatever cause I desire.  I figure I
have earned my stripes in doing so by paying my taxes and in service to my country and community.  My tour of duty
in Vietnam in itself qualified me for this right, but added to this was having to walk out of the gates when discharged
in Oakland, California and being cussed at, called a baby killer and spat upon by those whose freedom I severed to
protect.  Now some 40 years later I still am being spat upon by those who have a different point of view then mine.
Some of which I doubt spent a day in service to this nation, let alone this community.

Yes I display my signs just as proudly as I display the awards I received as a soldier in this country’s Army.  Many of
my signs could have been considered controversial, however it was not until I displayed supporting two recent
School Board Candidates, did my property get vandalized, the only time in over twenty years.  The actions of these
vigilantes were reported to the Sheriffs Department, and I wonder about the mentality of these individuals and their

As a point of reference I will state that my choice in the candidates was guided by the simple factor centering on the
turmoil existed in the school board prior to thus past election.  Public outbursts that were allowed to take place, this
contrary to board policy.  I simply wanted to see new blood on the board.  If no candidates had been available to run
against the incumbents I would have considered nominating Snow White and any one of the seven dwarfs just to
see a change in the School Board.  Fortunately we had a choice of other candidates and I displayed their signs.

The situation in many school board meeting had reached a point that eventually the district had to post additional
police in the meetings.  At one point an individual had to be escorted out of the meeting by these officers.  You can
imagine how surprised I was when I saw The Gateway had selected the individual as citizen of the week.  As much
chaos as I am suppose to cause in this community this should entitled me to be selected by The Gateway, citizen of
the year.

I would like to further point out in respect to my comments by bringing to your attention a question asked by the
watch puppy creators.  I was quoted as stating, “that there is a sizeable voting block within the school district, a block
noted if we truly desire to see a bond issue passed in the district”.  I have reviewed my writings and have yet to
make this comment.  If these amateurs must quote me please do so correctly.  I have pointed that among the
workers in the classified ranks a number of them reside in the community and are eligible to vote on any issue.  I do
not control or seek to control their vote, I only seek to educate the voting public, and whether they work in the
schools or not that they have a voice on matters in this community.  This is call empowering the masses or
grassroots activism.  Who do I threaten by educating the community in what is being taught, or hopefully being
taught in any civics class?

And while on the subject of quotes, I might advice the writers of the watch puppy to research fully Grover Norquist.
You may find yourself as embarrassed by your association to him as you were with Kathleen Norris, which
incidentally you omitted mentioning in the copy printed in The Gateway.

An example of grassroots activism that I was involved with just recently was lobbing with a number of other activist
from around the state at the capitol.  There we met with a number of the States Legislators from both sides of the
isle to work for or against certain legislation.  One item that will have an impact on the senior citizens of this
community is a bill that would raise the insurance rates for people 50 and over by $176.00 a year.  These are the
same people who have asked in the past to vote for school bond issues.  Another bill that was of concern to myself
could have the potential to cost the school district thousands of dollars in revenue, this according to Dr. Lange, a bill
requiring the children of undocumented residence to register this information with school districts across the state.
These and many other items be were brought to the attention of our legislators on both sides of the aisle.  I
personally met with District 32 State Rep. Val Vigil to discuss this and other community issues and was received
graciously by him.

Let me now ask who do you as readers of this article, can be determined to have any degree of credibility?  Myself
whose actions are done openly and focused on the good of every segment of our community.  Or, the actions of
cowards who server only their own selfish needs and desires.  Unnamed individuals who place the safety of those in
our community in danger not to mention the safety of students of this community.   You decide for yourselves,
incidentally my payment for lobbying on issues for this community was a meal that consisted of chicken, coleslaw
and a diet Pepsi.
You can imagine how delighted I was when Ms. McIntyre, the Editor In Chief of The Gateway made the following
proclamation in her editorial in the February 3rd edition of her paper in relation to another topic.  Ms. McIntyre made
the following statement, “I did not cause any vigilantism, I did not cause anyone to be harassed, I am not un-
American, I am a Christian, I am a good journalist”.  I cannot understand with this proclamation how she can support
a paper that prints an unsigned flyer that is counter to her declaration.

I do not dispute Ms. McIntyre’s convictions and principles, however this was the same argument used by supporters
of the nightriders who held positions of trust during the daylight hours.  They were Judges, Mayors, Educators, and
yes Ministers, but at night put on their robes and hoods and terrorized those they opposed.  Scripture inform us
that, “You shall know them by their fruits”.  The fruits (actions) of those who put together the watch puppy placed the
welfare of school district employees, school board members and the children in danger, from your statements I am
sure these are not your fruits, Ms. McIntyre, so I ask why do you lend your credibility to support them?

The unnamed writers of this flyer do this so that they will not be held responsible for their actions.  It is for this
reason that in some respects I applaud The Gateway for printing this unsigned editorial; again I use the term
loosely.  This I think now makes The Gateway culpable for any harmful actions that may result against an employee
of the district, a school board member or heaven forbid a child.  We in the community now have someone we can
identify with who places themselves ahead of the children of the School District.
